I honestly thought that he was the'one'. He liked me too, thought I was funny, smart, etc... but I wasn't his type. But nonetheless, he liked my personality and wanted to see me again. After 6 months, I told him that I loved him. He didn't freak out about it. We've dated for over a year. We talked about marriage and kids. He respects me a lot and I respect him too. We had a huge fight 1.5 months ago, he said that he's put a lot of effort into this relationship, but that I don't want to open up. So we broke up, he said he doesn't want to stay friends. It was a messy fight. I told him I respect his decision, and backed off. After 1 month, he emailed me and left me a message on my voicemail. I haven't seen him yet, but we've been emailing each other. We haven't spoken about our issue, we just talk about work and our life. I'm confused, why is he back?

I did the same, Now its clear that he misses the relationship whether its frindship or some thing more but maybe you should think about how you feel about him? are you shure you cant find better? i think you should just acept the friend ship ofer and see where it takes you?
hope this helps
