 Because you are placing way too much importance on him being the first. When you stop doing that and realise that life goes on, you will forget him being the first.

 How long has it been? Getting over someone takes time! Give yourself more than a few months, he meant a lot to you and played an important role in your life. It'll take time to get over him, and if it takes more than a few months then don't worry, it's normal. It can take years even, dependent on the relationship. But with time you feel less and less, and one day he is completely out of your mind.
