My physio theropist told me that i have scoliosis and where its pushing on my muscle my muscle keeps getting spasms. She said that it is only minor but they dont understand how much it hurts. They didnt even give me an x-ray just exercises which i dont think are helping but making it worse. Its difficult for me to find a comfortable way to sit or lay. I lose sleep over it. I cant enjoy myself on family outtings becuase i have to sit down while the others go off. I cant play any sports or anything. The pain is so bad. I dont know how they can say that its only minor and i dont need anything apart from exercise because they are not me and they dont feel my pain. Please could anyone help me?

So_Very_Confused agony auntI have a 20 degree curve in my back that is from degenerative disc disease so I know your pain. I have found that yoga is very very helpful for flexibility and movement. If you don't like physio (and i hated it) you need to find something that will take the place that you love.

You need to ask your parents to take you to the doctor to talk about it. Maybe a muscle relaxer can help you. I know that I take one every night at bedtime to help me sleep and wake up less stiff.

I hurt 24/7 and there are some things I can't do now (like bend over and pick up a laundry basket or walk steps normally or run or climb) It's got to be harder on you being so young.

I can't help but wonder however if your pain is actually that severe or if perhaps like my husband you have a very low threshold of pain.

There is pain and there is discomfort. You must learn to differentiate between the two. For example yesterday in yoga I was doing some stretches and my IT BAND (the band that runs from the hip to below the knee on the outside of your leg was BURNING.... it was NOT nice... but it was not pain... it was bearable... you have to learn to push through discomfort and keep pushing...

Hi. If you were seeing a physio for something else when it was picked up that you have scoliosis then you really need to visit your doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

If you have had a proper diagnosis from a doctor and this is why you are receiving physio, try and keep it up as it will help the condition but you have to do the exercise routine as prescribed for it to work.

If you are finding it difficult to get about and stick to the physio routine because it is too painful, you need to tell your doctor and ask what he or she can give you for pain relief.

You can Google Scoliosis and look at the NHS Choices site. It will give you a lot of information. There are also comments from others with Scoliosis that you might find helpful.

At the end of the day if you feel unhappy about your diagnosis or treatment, dont be fobbed off by the doctor. Get your mum or dad on board and go back to the doctor as many times as it takes until you feel satisfied you are getting the treatment you deserve. And if you are really worried and unhappy and the doctor is not helping, request to see a specialist.

You can also visit the SAUK (The Scoliosis Association UK) website where you will find information about your condition and support. Maybe check with your doctor that it would be okay, then ask your mum or dad to source a reputable acupuncture therapist in your area and see if acupuncture will help with the muscular spasms.

If you cant move around very freely because of the pain, sitting and being less mobile will not help it will only make matters worse, so make the doctor and assistance with pain control your first port of call so you can keep up with your exercises.

Dont sit and suffer in silence, make a hoohaa about this problem and get the attention you need! All the best.

person12345 agony auntWe can't, only your doctor can. You need to insist to them that the pain you are feeling isn't minor. Make sure they know how bad it is. Doctors don't have much time to spend with individual patients so they tend to give the easiest first diagnosis. That's correct the vast majority of the time, but sometimes it means they overlook symptoms.

You should make another appointment with your doctor to figure out better pain management techniques and possible treatments. Be very insistant and don't let them brush you off.
