I got a new boyfriend about six months later. It's been three years since and I have been thinking about him more frequently and sorta want to drop him a text. Cut I probably shouldn't. Why do I feel like this? About someone who was pretty horrible to me in the end

I've been here, and I actually ran into the ex that treated me badly.
I would say you feel like this because you want something he didn't give you, at least thats how I felt. When I ran into my ex I tried to rekindle things, bad idea. She was the same person, treated me the same, and I ended up feeling like a tool.
I would suggest not texting him.

 You have been too invested in men who are no good for you. The new guy isn't really doing it for you but instead of breaking it off and meeting more people, you go back to the past as if starting a new relationship is too much hassle for you.
