 i'm 13 and the same happens to me everytime i see my reflection i look and do my hair up again and say to whoeva i'm with omg have u seen wa i look like, nd they'll always say u look gorge dont worry. i sumetimes wonder if they just say it 2 be nice. but lots of people have said i'm pwitti. xxxxxxxxx plz add me as ur m8. x thanx jode x wud luv to keep in touch

Its natural to want to look nice, and these bitchy girls that tell you your not pretty are wrong, other people have told you that your attractive, which is great. The bitchy girls are probably jelous, as they arent naturally pretty, and have to pile on the foundation and eyeliner if they want to look half-way decent!

reader, anonymous, writes (22 October 2007): The western society is so concerned with appearance...and the mind set of always having to look good can particularly affect young girls/teenagers and women. There's a constant everyday stream of images of thin women advertising beauty products, clothing brands etc..
I am not saying that every girl self concious about their appearance is an immediate consequence of this, but never ever base yourself on them.. Everyone is beautiful in their own different way. If people ever comment in a negative way about your appearance, it is most of the time because they have their own insecurities. Don't listen!! Also, it can be really hard sometimes in the playground or wherever when girls tend to divide themselves up into different groups; and there's usually one or two groups inparticular who are extremely bitchy to pretty much everyone.
Love yourself for who you are. Don't be sad. You'll find your someone someday, when you get older, who'll love you for who you are ALL the time..and that means in the morning when you wake up with no make up on and messy hair.

reader, anonymous, writes (22 October 2007): hunni, i am exactly the same. im 15 and if i dont look my best i always feel selfcontious. its natural in this socioty to feel the need to look beautiful. dont worry. i just figure that the cruel people either are jelous or showing off around their 'possy'. just today i was walking into town and this group of teenagers - (our age) - started looking at me. my hair was a mess and i felt really stupid. if you get told ur pretty then good 4 you!!!!!! i wish i was.
