I was hoping if you could tell me whether this is normal (as i don't think so) and when I will stop growing body hair. Reply to this Question Share |

People used to tease me, calling me Shaggy and Chewbacca.
Now I just enjoy the hair. I even dyed it different colors for theme parties and special events. Why fight the inevitable, right?
Just find a hairy girl like me and you won't feel too bad. There's lots of us hiding under our clothes out here!

You have my deepest sympathy. I was in your position when I was your age: hairy chest at age 13, hairy back at age 15. Then add frighteningly white skin, and freckles. I was a freak. I spent the next two decades avoiding the beach unless I could shave, and never taking my shirt off in public because I was a sasquatch. This was before waxing & laser hair removal. Now those methods are available & I can afford them. It's made a world of difference.
DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR: Find the money! Get laser hair removal done! Trust me as someone who has been in your shoes. You will not regret it.

If you're Caucasian, its quite normal for you to be hairy past a certain age. The level of hairiness varies from person to person of course, but generally speaking, people of White, Indian, Arab, Italian, descendent..etc. tend to be hairy and are able to grow a full beard.
On the other spectrum, East-Asian men (Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, etc) do not tend to possess any visible hair on their chest/back/arm, and some do not even have visible hair on their legs.
It is believed that it might partly have an evolutionary basis, predominantly perhaps due to "sexual-selection". Thus other Caucasian women probably will tend to like their men big, hairy and "rough" looking anyway, so don't worry too much about it. =D

Hey im 15 too!
Well my friends are always questioning my hairyness, and yes im embarrassed too. I dont like wearing shorts, sandles, and sleeveless shirts alot. 1 because i have hairy legs, feet, toes, butt, back, etc. 2 because im very self concious.
Anyways my cousin once told me that he wished he had hair like me because he had none. That made me feel better, but im still a little bit insecure about it.
The thing is, dont beat yourself over it, its just natural accept it.

I learnt that its because of higher level of male hormone. i asked for medication to reduce the growth of hair. the doc advised that medication would infact have adverse effect on masculanity. So now i have stopped thinking about it.

I feel so self-conscious whenever I go to a swimming pool, or locker room, etc. It can be frustrating at times for me as well. I too am worried myself whether or not this is natural. I live in a small town, but every guy and/or man I see has the minimal amount of hair. I guess you and I make up for all of the hair they don't have! Maybe it is our genes. My mom is adopted(shhh!), but I know she is of Irish and Italian descent(she is white and has medium-brown hair) and my dad is a full-blooded Mexican(he has jet-black hair). Just A Dreamer wrote that the color of the hair also makes it seem worse than it is, well, I'm not complaining, but I at least know that my mother's real father was in fact a blond. What I'm trying to say, is that I'm a little confused as to why my real grandfather's "blond genes" didn't SOMEWHAT pass on to me.Recently, I had to get an EKG(for what turned out to be just heartburn) and they had to hook up some wires to me. They hooked up two wires to my legs(one to each) with some sticky pad thingys, and they had to shave a small part of each leg just to do it. I was so embarassed, I was about to cry(and I'm 15)!Sorry I've dumped all of this personal stuff on you that you probably didn't want to hear, but I just wanted you to know that you're not the only one! And I'm glad there are people out there willing to help a stranger out!

It's normal, some guys develop sooner than others... if you REALLY hate it, though, I suppose you could have it waxed at a salon.
You're from Australia, so it's possible that you're Caucasian... it's the result of genes!
Testosterone is one factor in hairiness, but remember, some ethnic groups tend to be hairier than others. It doesn't mean the men aren't manly, it's just not in their genes. I lived in Cuernavaca, Mexico... a lot of people there have native Indian ancestry and many of the guys at my college (grown men) have NO chest hair, I know one guy who doesn't even have hair under his arms (he has hair, eyebrows and eyelashes and some facial hair but that's it). We all have different genes!

reader, anonymous, writes (20 June 2009): Oh, sweetheart, some men are just hairier than others. It doesn't matter if she loves you. I have dated and loved a hairy man and a man who had hardly any hair...it did not matter in the least to me as there were other things that I was attracted to and the amount of hair on his body had nothing to do with my choice.
Don't worry about it, men are hairy. Women expect it. It is manly and an indication of your testostertone level which is what is responsible for your sex drive and other male characteristics, so why be concerned, you are male....it is as silly as worrying about going bald on top or the size of your penis. We women have the same worries, not about hair but about our female characteristics.
The bottom line is beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder, doesn't matter.

reader, anonymous, writes (20 June 2009): There's a wide range of body types, and what you're describing is hardly unusual. Lots of guys are just like you; there's nothing at all abnormal about what you describe. I'm guessing that you're bugged because hairy doesn't seem to be 'in' these days. Guys in movies (and particularly in porn) don't have body hair.
All I can tell you is that tastes change -- there are girls out there who think it's sexy. Find one of them.

A
reader, anonymous, writes (20 June 2009): Don't worry about it, it's perfectly normal. It's because of your genetics. I take it you have dark hair because if it were light you wouldn't be as bothered. The color can make it seem worse then it actually is. The hair is supposed to be there so it will continue to grow unless you remove it. It most likely won't get any worse though it's more likely to stay the same.
If it makes you feel any better some guys are paranoid because they don't have any facial or body hair because they haven't really hit puberty...
