writes:Ok... i was looking stuff up online about anal sex and read on one site that sperm is dead once it is exposed to oxygen. Then on here i read somebody's answer to a question that said if the sperm drips down and enters the vagina the girl could still get pregnant. I know one of those statements has to be wrong. i would just like to know which one. thank you in advance for the answers 8)

reader, anonymous, writes (9 January 2009): Hey! sperm doesnt die on contact with oxygen, no, but it cant survive more than a few hours outside the body, and only then if the environments is right... eg moist and nutrient rich!
So if sperm dripped down from anal sex, and then you had vaginal sex or fingered your girlfriend she could get pregnant. Having said that, there are some major health issues with that... anything that has been inside the anus is contaminated with faeces and should not go anywhere near the vagina (without being washed thoroughly). So if you were having anal sex without a condom you should be very careful to wash away all residue before any sort of vaginal penetration... this solves both the pregnancy problem and the issue of infection!

If sperm drips into the vagina a girl can become pregnant. If sperm is say on the bed it takes about 3 hours to die and if it is in the vagina it takes up to 3 days to die. So make sure you are careful.
