I ask because I have 2 friends who each had a girlfriend from Manchester and Liverpool and both moaned about their accents. Reply to this Question Share |

Whatever floats yer boat - I live on the outskirts of Manchester - in Stockport, but used to live in Bath. I had the mickey taken something rotten when my family first came over from Canada, picked on at school, etc, and had to endure the same when I first moved 'oop Nawth' to find a job - and I myself used to think the Yorkshire accent strange, that is, until I fell for a Yorkie myself! It is about the person within, not just the accent, for sure!
A

Those are the people that give the regional accent a bad name or make people think the accent is annoying. I think some northern accents are quite nice. I went out with someone from Manchester and loved spending time with their family listening to them all took; it's so friendly.

Listen folks, calm down!!!! As I am Mancunian, I personally love my accent, the Scouse accent is great, so is the Geordie and Cockney and Brummie and all the accents in the world are unique and great!!! Ok, thats a dull answer but its the truth!!!! Mancs, Liverpudlians, we are all great. And as for the the Wigan accent, thats my favourite. Ok guys, lets not get all regionally prejudiced!!!! xxx

I dont think the accent really figures if you like someone, you over look it, we are all unique and no matter where we come from will all sound a little different. It just shows immaturity if someone looks more at an accent than a person.

Anonymous guy, what you yacking about? Which part of London you in exactly? Half baked accent my butt! The trash you see on tv isn't how people really speak like here in London. Go back to hell you jerk!
Anyway I couldn't tell the difference between Liverpool and Manchester accents. They seem like a weaker Newcastle accent

Personally love both scouse and manc accents - and being from London it's good to hear regional accents once in a while and not the half baked fake-cockney 'innit' that seems to dominate down here....

Camille, you are spot on!!! By the way I love the Bolton accent! But back to the point, accents should have no beating on relationship I mean its really each to their ownas Camille said some may love or loathe an accent, its entirely an individual thing, surely there are more pressing matters in a relationship than accents!!! xxx

They both moaned about their accents? Charming. What has this got to do with you though? I mean, why do you want to know? Have you got a bet going? Haven't you met your friend's girlfriends? Hmmm, this is rather strange as it's a case of One man’s meat is another man’s poison. Each to their own. Some people LOVE both accents. Some loathe them. You may like both? I'm from Bolton (near Manchester) and although my accent isn't strong compared to many, if someone didn't want to be with me becuase of the way I speak, then I wouldn't want someone so shallow anyway!

Sorry David, when I say funny its not to offend you, I mean it in a nice way, when you tell jokes it sounds funnier than most other accents. Sorry David, I love Scousers. xxx

I am a pure blooded Mancunian and dont have a bad word to say about my city!!! I personally love the "Scouse" accent i.e the Liverpudlian accent its soooo funny, so I dont find neither of them annoying. Some people from certain parts of Manchester i.e North Mancunians have a slightly more annoying accent i.e people from Clayton and Openshawe but South Manchester accents like mine are pretty neutral. xXx
