 I know that feeling. Love and hate aren't opposite feelings, they are both two extreme feelings, and theres a fine line between them, just as with brilliance and insanity.
For me the saying means when you loved someone, but they caused you so much pain, even when you loved them, that you could not forgive what they had done. Then the strong feelings you had towards them that used to be good feelings turn into the equal amount of bad feelings. The ones we love the most are the ones who have the power to hurt us the deepest... unfortunately when they do thats where the line gets crossed.

 This personally to me means when you love someone (partner. crush or friend)but something happens between the two of you and the feelings you once had for that person change and you start to feel hatred towards them and everything they do just annoys you in some way.
