I felt it was appropriate, but its entirely up to you what you do.

Generally speaking the boy buys the girl an engagement ring. Men do not wear engagement rings. However, they do were wedding rings and each party should receive a wedding ring at the marriage ceramony. In this day and age when sometimes it is the women proposing I dont know how that would change the rules. I would think then, that no engagement ring would be worn, just wedding bands after the marriage ceramony. But I dont really know.
