 I used to hear of people wearing certain things a certain way (like a handkercheif hanging from either left or right pocket) to let people know, but to be honest, that's all a little 1980's! If you want to meet a gay stranger, er, how about going to a gay bar? Or placing an ad? If you are gay and like someone but don't know whether they're straight or not, then perhaps invite them out and suggest a gay friendly place and see how it goes from there. Without knowing why you want to know, it's difficult to advise.

reader, anonymous, writes (23 August 2006): People, there are PLENTY of gay guys who still have girlfriends. Tons of gay people are well and truely in the closet and prefer to stay that way. So, asking if they have a girlfriend is probably not going to work.
Question asker: If your gaydar is not working you will simply have to ask them outright if they are gay or not.
Note, it is quite rude to ask someone if they are gay, ESPECIALLY if it turns out their not. So, why not just look at them a little suggestively and say something a tiny bit flirty. Then you will know straight away if their gay!
.. I still think the ruler in the trousers is your best bet though :)

 I think you should ask them if they have a girlfriend, they might then say no Im gay. Or you might be lucky and they might not be but have brilliant dress sense. Never make it obvious you think there gay because if there not you could end up hurting there feelings. Good luck and remember there is nothing wrong with being gay so if they turn out to be gay don't turn your nose up at them. Take care
