What's the gentlemanly thing to do about transport for a date, if we go out for drinks? Should I pick her up in a Taxi on the way to the venue?

I have a date with a girl soon and we're going for drinks. I just dont know what to do and what is more "gentlemanly" regarding getting there and back.

I wont be driving cause i'll be drinking and the place we are going is too far away to walk.

So getting there:

I dont know whether to book a taxi and pick her up on the way

OR

Just meet her there?

Getting back:

Should we each get different taxis

Should we get in the same taxi and drop her off first?

Or something else.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (12 April 2013):

Tell her you'll pick her up in a taxi on the way. You should also share a taxi home and make sure she gets home ok. You as a gentleman should cover the taxi fair there and back EVEN if she offers to pay or pay half. Do this and she'll think you're a keeper.
