writes: What's it mean when you have a period an extra day after you're supposed to be done? I usually have my period for 7 days, and yesterday was my 7th day, but today i'm still having it. Is something wrong with me?

reader, anonymous, writes (24 January 2009): I started my period when I was 10, so I know that sometimes I could have it for only 4 days and the next time it would be 10. Its nothing to worry about.

I have serious problems with my cycle at the moment, starting suddenly with 8 months without a period, and since it came back ive had a multitude of tests run and problems unexplained and a period that lasted an entire month.... This could be anything simply from stress to a change of diet or in fact any change in your life... one day doesnt make a difference, give it another 4 days and then get to your doctor...

That means it was a heavy flow and not only that there really isn't a certain amount of days. Every woman has a different amount of days that they bleed. I used to bleed for 11 days! Can you imagine. Depending on your hormones will be the amount of days you'll bleed for.
