A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I had to take the Plan B emergency contraceptive this morning after a condom slipped with my boyfriend last night and I had forgot to take my birth control. I have read that it is 85% effective and am just curious if anyone has had experiences with it and whether they have been positive or negative.

Thanks for the opinions!

A female reader, Nita007 South Africa +, writes (17 February 2011):

Had unprotected sex with fiance on 31 January, then took MAP on the 2 Feb, we had sex again 4 Feb. Started bleeding 8 Feb until 11 Feb (was not like my usual period). It was within my fertile week! My normal should have started 14/15 february, had a spot of bleeding on the 15th but nothing since then. Been suffering with stuffy nose, metal taste, tiredness, hungry all the time, light period cramps, headaches. I dont know if i can be pregnant, the pregnancy tests were all done prior to 14 days after sex and i know will not show positive if it is. Any comments or know anybody who this has happened to and what was their experiences?

One more question ladies: I can't seem to find the answer to this. Last night was my last regular birth control pill, which I took. Should I wait and see if I get my period or immediately begin my new pill pack?

Maria-consuela agony auntIt isn't neccesarily a 'cure all', but it is effective when taken as early as possible in that 72 hour window. Some experience side effects that are much more severe - some experience none at all. It is like anything, really.

I have a friend who has taken it twice, and both times experienced horrible nausea, devastating migraines and a very heavy flow in a period that came about 2 days after taking it.

Personally, I've taken it once and I didn't experience any symptoms except for a bit of mild cramping but nothing that was persistant enough to bother me.

Glad to hear everyone has had positive results! I haven't felt too weird. I've felt ever so slightly crampy, though. Anyone feel that? I read it can cause spotting and stuff. It makes me feel better to hear from REAL women and not just read a statistic though! Thanks so so much!!!

I've taken that in the past and it didn't agree with me at all. I had really bad stomach cramp and an upset stomach for a few days. There are other side affects but it depends on the person. It is only supposed to be taken in an emergency, as you know so taking it once or twice is ok but i wouldn't rely on it as it's not as effective and the side affects sometimes aren't very pleasent.

Hello anonymous writer,

The statistics with Plan B are simply just statistics. I experience with Plan B has been positive. As long as you it within 72 hours (the earlier the better) it will work just fine. I have been taking them since 2008 and its works fine each time I have a slip and use. Even the side effects are pretty minimal, and sometimes you won’t even notice a thing.

Maybe I just got lucky, but the last time i used it, I was in the mid of my ovulating period so you known the chances of being pregnant at such times are pretty high. All the same, I took the Plan B Pill the next morning and it works just fine.

Good luck:

Female; 21-23

I had a very mild nausea and that was that. No pregnancy occurred, so I'd say that it was a positive experience.
