reader, anonymous, writes (10 December 2012): Jewellery is always a good bet, but try to pick something personal to her. Have a look at what jewellery she wears now - does she like gold or silver? Big and 'blingy' or more understated? Then try to pick a design that means something. One of the best presents I ever got was a silver charm bracelet with 3 charms on it - one was the Eiffel tower because we had been to Paris together, another was an ice cream cone because we ate ice cream on our first date, and the third was a dolphin which is my favourite animal. Not only was it beautiful, but it showed that he really thought about me and made it personal. I was delighted! I would also say that I have had lots of other jewellery from him which means just as much because it's from him and he has bought it to make me happy, so I'm sure she'll love anything you get her :) Merry Christmas to you both!

 If I were a girl, and knew my B/F was going to get me a gift that cost about $350, I'd cross my fingers and say my prayers that he would get me a new lawnmower.....
