Ithaca Chris - seeing you post is always such a little thrill for me, since Ithaca is my all time favorite place.
Get her season tickets to a playhouse. If you are still in Ithaca, best gift I ever got was season ticks to Kitchen Theater, but Hangar is good as well. Giving her season tickets (2 to each show), means a whole seasons worth of hot dates out!

A trip maybe? Or a spa weekend? What kinds of things does she like? Movies/music/sports/hobbies, you can always get a couple of medium, meaningful presents instead of one big one...

as for the ring - too much symbolism behind that. the first ring i buy her will be an engagement ring, if/when i'm ready.
as for clothes - she has wayyyyyy too many already.
as for the log cabin - we are already basically spending xmas at a log house in the woods in new england with snow and roasting fires. it's my uncle's house, but still....

hard to say, a painting? something to frame? my GF's favorite city is belfast so i found an old, old map of belfast and framed it - it was perfect, so something like that?
does he like music? reading? one of the best gifts i got was a bunch of CDs and books - sounds silly and unromantic, but a lot of thought went into picking them on her part, and all i need is some new music to make me happy.

I'll bet if you buy her a ring she will be over the moon. Young women like rings. Or if you feel threatened by this, buy her a gold chain for her neck with a locket on so she can keep a photo of you there. hope this helps.
