What signs should I look for to tell whether he is interested in me or not?

Im an aries woman, and I met a very withdrawn scorpio guy @ work about 3 1/2 months ago. We've become friends and talk in person, text and on the phone. I like him a lot. Some days he will share his deepest feelings with me, but I can't tell if he's interested or not because whenever he starts to appear to be interested in me, he'll close himself off. I'm sure he knows im into him because he asked me once to tell him the real reason I talk to him so much, and when I said because we're friends, he laughed and said its more to it than that. He stays to himself a lot, and now that we talk, he's told me about his past with dating and its obvious through his words that he's lonely. How can I tell if he's interested in me? What kind of signs could I look for? Im not really the type to just ask him, or tell him I like him. Please help me.
