Question - (23 January 2012) 5 Answers - (Newest, 24 January 2012)
A female Argentina age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Basically my boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship and one weekend I went to visit him, On the weekend we went out with his college friends and one of them named John bought his fiancee Anna with him. At the meal my boyfriend focused a lot of his attention on Anna and when John bought up the fact that he's excited to marry Anna as he inherits her uncle whom he loves my boyfriend replied (looking straight at Anna) 'no u don't inherit uncles... like if anna and I got married she wouldn't get my uncle". They then began talking about being intoxicated and my boyfriend said ' yeah love's an intoxicant just look at John with Anna.' to which John replied 'like u and your girlfriend.' and my boyfriend looked down at his plate and said 'No because I'm a real man." . At the end of the night my boyfriend invited Anna out with us the next day (John had to work) and asked her for her number to arrange things (she later cancelled via a facebook message). Then a few weeks ago I went to visit him again and John and Anna arrived. When they arrived it had been raining and my boyfriend turned to Anna and said 'you look different when your wet.' Then at the bar my boyfriend poured salt on the table and began to draw breasts in the salt all the while winking at Anna. I don't know if I'm overreacting? What is he feeling for this girl (if anyhing?) thank u.

CindyCares agony aunt I think your bf is acting macho and thinks John is sort of a wuss for being so clearly smitten with Anna and making cute little comments about uncles and generally acting as a man in love .

Probably in his mind a "real man " does not show a lot of emotions, and does not get so excited over a woman - if not for sexual reasons. A real man... draws breasts in the salt. And provokes other men by flirting with their fiancee under their nose.

Hey again!

Well when he was saying "no, I'm a real man..." that's pretty odd. I have absolutely no idea what that comment could mean but the way you describe him in the conversation almost makes him sound like he isn't in love, where as to him John and Anna are? If I were you I would just want to find out what's going through his mind and would speak to him about it.

Best wishes xx

Sounds like your bf is making an ass of himself.

I'd have a frank chat with him about his behavior.

I know, I'd never treat my gf like that (married now and never would treat my wife like that).

If I were you I would have a word with him. Tell him how he behaves around Anna is embarrassing. That is his friends fiancée so flirting anyway is off limits and he is with you, you should be his priority. If this is making you uncomfortable let him know otherwise it could drag on and on and inside you'll feel angrier and angrier.

Be polite and just say "You know when we met with John and Anna? Well the way you outright flirt with her is obvious to me and I imagine is to John too. You need to tone down how you behave because it upsets me and makes me feel uncomfortable."

Ask also what he meant by that comment about love, for your own peace of mind. Perhaps having a chat about where he sees your relationship going etc... there might be areas for you both to work on so he views your relationship as one of proper love.

If I were you I would have been annoyed and would have mentioned it. Hope all goes well and maybe some of my ideas suit you : ) best wishes x
