k_c100 agony auntYou mention you go horseriding - this is the reason your thighs are so big! I used to ride myself (for 8 years) and when I rode, I had the biggest thighs because of the muscle riding builds in the legs! So you are not fat, and all that weight will be muscle!

Swimming is probably the best thing you can do to make your legs leaner, but short of stopping riding :( there is not a lot you can do to make your legs smaller! If you eat well, and exercise then you will clearly be very healthy on the inside (even if you are a little bigger on the outside!) so you shouldnt worry too much, skinny people can still be very unhealthy on the inside of they eat rubbuish all the time!

You say you weigh a little over 10stone, now for your height this is actually ok. I know at your age it seems like a lot and probably your body wont have evened out yet (I bet not all things are in proportion!) so just wait a while until you are older before you start worrying about your weight. As long as you dont put on anymore weight then you are fine, this is just your body's natural shape and there is no point in trying to fight it.

I understand that you might think becoming anorexic may be the only way to lose weight but in the long run it will cause more problems than it solves. When you become anorexic your body starts eating into the muscle once the fat has gone, so you end up eating into your organs like your heart. This will lead to heart failure which kills you - dont put your health at risk when your body hasnt stopped growing yet! I know it must seem pretty rubbish but you need to wait until you are older, at the moment your body is still changing and hasnt settled down yet so you have no idea how you will look when you are older!

Just keep on eating healthy, make sure you are eating the right types of food - no proccessed foods, no take aways, no white bread, white pasta, white rice etc. Try and cut your portion sizes down and eat more at lunch time rather than at dinner seen as your body burns more calories during the day than at night. Start doing some gentle weight exercises - buy some free weights for at home and start lifting these. Buy light weights and do lots of repetitions - weight training builds muscle which needs more calories to exist than fat does - so you burn more calories even sitting around doing nothing!

I hope this helps and good luck!

wonderingcat agony auntIf you've done exercises and still have not lost pounds, there are five things that play a factor (1) your exercises were not tailored to have the impact you wanted, or (2) your intake (food) still outweighs your outtakes (calories burnt), (3) your foods are mostly processed foods thus takes longer to "burn" when compared to natural/healthy/unprocessed foods. or (4) your fat cells have disappeared but you are gaining muscle mass - this is healthy! and (5) genetics.

Have a look at your own BMI and BMR, and as long as you are in the healthy zone, you should not worry about your

"shape" as society dictates us.

If you want self confidence as well as fun in losing weight and muscle toning, learn how to dance salsa! Get the DVDs, join a dance school, or get some friends together to do this at home. Do this 2-3 hours on weekend, and I guarantee you will have lots of fun! Make sure you shower afterwards, because you can get really really sweaty doing the salsa steps!

Here are some links to exercises that you can also do at home, every nite and morning, for about 30 minutes:
