 Get a group thing going to hang out with him and don't be alone with him. Or just say you can't and eventually he will stop asking. Its not the nicest thing to do but if you are this scared then it doesn't matter.
I strongly do not recommend alone time since he may just see this as a booty call. Another way would be to meet him in a public place, like for coffee and stay there till you go your separate way from him at the end.
Good luck and be careful, if he was a real friend he would not hurt or scare you.
