A female reader, PsyCookie United States +, writes (15 August 2008):

PsyCookie agony auntThat's something very normal to happen, but it's actually an optical illusion.

The reason why it looks twice as thick and abundant is because you got accostumed in looking at a bare-smooth skin and then you saw hair growing suddenly. Your brain thinks that the hair is twice as thick but it is actually growing the same way.

What you could do is to leave it growing for a few days and in those days wear thights/leggings or pants. You don't have to wear skirts/dresses everyday. Don't shave too often or your skin will get irritated. Also, after you shave, remember to mousturize your legs. When winter comes, don't shave your legs. What's the point to shave your legs when the wheather will be to cold to wear a skirt?

Or you could try waxing, but that will take more money, time, and probably the aproval of your mother, so try to stick with shaving for a while until your mom accepts taking you to a waxing place.

I was told by a dermatologist that shaving makes no difference whatsoever to hair growth rate or thickness of hairs - after all - the hair is growing from the follicle before it is visible? Most women have to shave every 36hrs to keep smooth - or else you could try waxing - ouch?
