Later, when he was 37, she had an affair with him,and although he penetrated, it was too soft for him to perform.Yet he seems that he fathered 3 kids, and was in good health.I can't ask him what his problem was as he is no longer with us.Any ideas on what his problem might have been?

It's all in the past so why are you looking into it so much? What exactly are you hoping to gain from finding out why? Although it's clearly impossible to find out why..seeing as how you said he is no longer with you, and only he wuld know, because there are emotional and physical reasons of why a man can go soft, you would never find out which one it was.

Is it too much to ask that you read the Sexual Reproduction sections of your bilogy text books in High-School?
Hell, pick up any anti-pregnancy pamphlet and you should be able to find the points all listed there for your ease of reference.

There are loads of reasons why a man goes soft.
Why does it matter?

Who says he fathered those kids? As you should know, not all sperm that ends up in a woman belongs to the man she claims to be with.
