I was just wondering because I haven't come up with a good reason myself as to why people give hickies except for leaving a mark on your lover. Thanks for your answers. Reply to this Question Share |

Not everyone does them to show off.
With my boyfriend, he does them in places which can't be seen by others, like they are our little secrets and make him feel close to me when he's not there.
I also enjoy the act of giving and receiving them, it's like forceful and passionate kisses.

Truthfully the purpose of a, as you say it, hickey/lovebite is to mark that person as their, 'Property,' or mate. Like a cat will rub up against their human master, her sent will then come off of her whiskers and that is a way as to say, "Stay away. This human is mine." To mark a person with a hickey or lovebite is also to say that they are the dominant person in that relationship.

yeah i would have to say it;s a young teen thing, i think they look stupid. the thought of someone giving me a nasty love bite, nothing worse. plus when you are older you don't want to be in a professional working environment with a big ugly bruise on your neck, it;s just not classy. but young teens don't see it like that, it's almost a badge to them. sad really.

It's something young teens do, to prove they are sexually active I guess. I think hickeys look stupid.
