In this situation he will resent it if you try to stop him from seeing his friend / ex but you are naturally going to feel insecure. I think that the approach is to be warm and friendly and actually try and get closer to her than he is. He will be surprised and happy, she will be surprised and bit confused and you will be in an excellent position to see that nothing improper is going on. You might even like her if you give her a chance. After all he likes both of you, you both like him. There is obviously some common ground there.
