this may sound silly to some of you out there, but im wondering how much is normal to gain during your period. ive never actually weighed myself this time of the month, but a few weeks ago i noticed i had gained 5 pounds. i was a little shocked and upset since i have been a steady weight for the last few years. as soon as i saw that i started dieting, not crash dieting but slim fast. the first week i lost 1 and a half pounds, but then i got my period. in the last 2 days i have jumped 8 pounds from my original weight. is this normal? does anyone have any tips of how i can lose it?

charliesdevil73 agony auntIt is completely normal to gain weight during your period. Your body bloats during your period. The amount will vary depending on your body, some gain only a couple while others gain 10+. I gain anywhere from 5-10 lbs during my period. It depends on how bad it is. If you see an increase but then it goes back down, your fine.

If you are a little worried, just keep track of it for the next few months so you know what is normal for your body. It will also be helpful in case you all of a sudden gain twice what is normal for you. You will then know that something is wrong.

And don't try to diet just becasue you gained period weight. As long as it is just during this time you gain the weight, just try not to eat a bunch of junk food.

sammi star agony auntI usually gain a couple pounds during my period, I think most women do. I find it's a combination of water retention and generally wanting to eat more crap like chocolate!

Don't beat yourself up over it, just be careful for the rest of the month and then you can relax and indulge a little when you get your period. If you gained as much as 8lb it could be because you went back to normal eating habits after doing the slimfast? I personally wouldn't bother with those because as soon as you start eating normally again it all piles back on.

Just stick to a sensible diet and exercise regime, it's common sense really. Also if you're anything like me you'll have to really force yourself to get up and do some exercise when you're on your period but it'll make you feel a lot better once you get it done!
