1. Jacking off but this might be easy to tell by his personailty whether hes had experience with women if hes desperate and so.
2. Some people actually develop this habit of going to the toilet everytime they go to a restaurant or cafe to make sure they look fine i have a friend who is like this and hes always going to the bathroom checking he looks fine and checks his har his breath etc
3. He could actualy be very nervous that hes on a date or that hes not very comfortable with people around the both of you but then again you can tell this by his personality and what type of a guy he is.

 You might want to ask him.. he may have just done exactly what he excused himself to do.. using the restroom. which seems odd to do at the beginning, but he may just be making room for the food.
