A female age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Basically me and my boyfriend had a typical break up however I pushed for it because he was feeling so depressed and I knew he was gonna push me away I didn't want to be hurt. His depression had taken over and he said he felt nothing about anything anymore (he had mentioned before how bad his depression gets and has been for years) he was high from our year together but hit a low and needed a break to work out his head which I completely understood. S

o I cried I've cried all summer but I hang out with him as our families are very close and we own houses basically beside each other ans spend all summers together all the time this was where we first got together last year so there's a lot of memories in the area. and where as it was more me trying to co operate with him recently in the past few weeks it's been him trying with me to start talking and chat.

I had tried the weeks before but he was so uncooperative I gave up and stopped bothering but lately he's always trying to get my attention, I catch him staring at me and smiling at me all the time and every time I catch his eye he looks away as if he wasn't then he stares at me and tries to keep eye contact, one time we hung out in my friends house and i got up to leave the room to go to the toilet which is outside and as i closed the door he stared after me like a puppy. I couldnt find the outside toilet so i went back and bumped into him he was leaving he said he thought i had left. I said no and went back into say goodbye i walked down to my house and he was standing waiting for me out the front instead of going home like he would have weeks before he then after every night somewhere came with me to my house after it all where it was only me staying and would stay till four or six in the morning talking with me all night about funny things.

Now recently he has begun to bring up the past at any chance saying "oh remember when we,," all the time memories I found hard to cope with weeks before. Everyone has said he only lights up when I'm around, I think people think we're dating again but the thing is I have tried to keep my distance because that's what he wanted but now he's always around. Whenever we touch as well his hands seem to linger kn mine for a noticeable amount of time, or bumping into me. He also used to have a cute voice for me when we dated and he's started doing the voice for me again.

When I was huffy with him because I wanted to go somewhere and he wouldn't wait i put on a sad face and he grinned and said he couldn't say no to that face. It's been as if we are dating so many other occurrences has happened but I can't write them all. He also introduces me to new people like he did when we dated

A female reader, fishdish United States +, writes (5 September 2016):

fishdish agony auntI don't like his behavior returning to a relationship without a conversation. My feeling is that this gray, limbo area is not good for either of you. Sit him down and ask what he wants. It sounds like you'd be willing to give him another chance. Ask him where he is in his recovery, if he's been seen by a doctor/therapist so you know he's following treatment recommendations. Which sounds nosy, but if I were you, I'd want some assurance that his health is being managed, and since it is the primary cause of the break to begin with. Keep us posted!
