Okay, emo is a few things, so i will tell you a few of the most common ones and yer:1. a style of music2. a ''look'' style of clothing ect3. a person who usually had low self esteem, is overly emotional or an emotional wreck, emos arent sad all the time and aernt silly cry babys. they dont all cut, they dont all with they were dead ecthope this helps! x

Emo's aren't as bad as people make out. Usually they have black hair and wear drainpipe jeans..actually they just dress up in black. Yeah some of them cut them selves but surely you cant' just typecast this certain group, as any other 'label' such as indie or chav's will have depressed people who will self harm. I get called emo sometimes because of my hair but i don't let it bother me, i know im more mature than those petty people who start calling others names just to hide their own insecurities.

 Honestly i really don't think you have anything to apolagise for you didn't say was one you just asked her what it was just reassure her that you don't think shes an emo and ask why people said that about her it maybe that she has a self harm back ground if so why? hope it helps xxx

emo, is someone who pretends to manicaly depressed and self harms for attention. you mainly find them crying in groups on street corners or alleyways in town. the guys usually wear alot of make up and clips in their hair, tight trousers and blazers, the girls just look like zombies. people who are ACCTUALLY dpressed and going through alot do NOT prance about showing everyone how awful their life is and presenting their newest scars to groups of friends. i would be discusted if someone called me emo, jus apologise. :)

just another way of categorisng people you get goths chavs thrashers retro's and now emos there strange if you ask me but what do i know.
you get lads walking round town with really tight trousers and tops and long blak hair there emo's
i wunt want to be classed as an emo either its annoyin when your called sumthing you dont want to be coz you get stereotyped like chavs do and its all mainly coz of how you dress
their jus like goths but a lil different (and weird) no offence to any emo's whatever lights ya candle i spose:)

If they have experienced a traumatic time during their upbringing then they cut themselves with knives, glass, anything sharp.Normal teenagers when they lose their temper storm off, but emo's cut themselves.

 Whenever I need to know something like this, I go to Google, so I just did and got definitions that include:
* a town near Dublin
* the US "emergency management office"
* an abbreviation of "emotionally-driven hardcore punk",
and others.
Maybe she doesn't want to be associated with a US Federal Bureau... or maybe it's the punk one. Or maybe I'm just hopelessly square.
The simple answer is of course to apologise for hurting her feelings and explain that you were ignorant of what it means to her. Any normal person will accept your apology.
