Heya! This can be scary the first time, but it's really important to relax; it can sting a little. This first time I had a smear, the assistant recommended the 'smaller size because I'm a smaller girl. My doctor put a little (almost too little!) lubricant on the clear, hollow tube that he inserted into my vagina. He then placed a plastic stick with a few bristles into the clear tube, fished around my cervics (which kinda stung) and then simply peered around the tube a bit to check for abnormalities. You'll get the results in a few weeks (sooner if there's a problem with the results) giving you the 4-11 on the down-south happenings. If it's your first one, he may also put lubricant on his/her finger and place it in your vagina. He'll prod your lower abdomen and feel your ovaries and uterus for a check-up on your machinary. My uterus tilts back, he said, which does not cause any problems. He also informed me that I have both ovaries. :) It's routine, it's normal, so just relax...It'll be okay. Enjoy life!

Hi,
A smear test is when a nurse or your doctor inserts a speculum (which is like a tiny little fingernail sized scoop on a long stick into your vagina to scrape some cells from your cervix to check that you don't have any signs of cervical cancer. It's uncomfortable rather than painful, stings a little but doesn't hurt for long!! Hope this helps.
