Question - (19 March 2008) 2 Answers - (Newest, 20 March 2008)
A male United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Ok... I am 17 and have been in a relationship with a girl for about 15 months now and I'm not sure that we suit each other any more. I am more involved in things such as classical music, art work and current events these days and she is still interested in rock music and tabloid type events. I originally got with her because, truthful, she liked the same things as me etc and I was lonely. To complicate matters there is another girl that I like and she has told me that she likes me. We are also very friendly and see each other a lot although that has only happened recently. However, she is two years younger although very mature for her age and she has, ironically, a level of intelligence and interests that more closely resemble my own. Now I'm not interested in sex particularly and I know she wants to wait until she's legal so that doesn't bother me.

To make matters worse my current girlfriend self-harmed before I met her and I'm afraid she may hurt herself if I did leave her. Finally we are in the same classes together and go to a boarding school which may be rather disasterous if I did leave her.

What I'm really looking for is another person's point of view, a bit of a guiding light.

A reader, anonymous, writes (20 March 2008):

Honey, I think you should follow your heart. Interests don't matter, unless they cause problems, or cause you to lose your feelings for her. Do you love her? I believe if you love her then you should be with her. But be careful with this other girl! If your gf finds out, she might feel pushed out, even cheated on a little.. Although, if you feel like you and your gf can't be together because of problems such as differences in interests, then maybe you guys are best off apart.

Do what your heart tells you to do. Good luck :]

A female reader, Skeez United Kingdom +, writes (19 March 2008):

Skeez agony auntIt shouldnt be a bad thing that you two dont have the same interests anymore. People in a relationship are still alowed to grow up and change there look on life.

If this other girl gives you more than your girlfriend, then maybe it would be more healthier for you to end the relationship with your girl and see if you want to be with this other one. But personally..I would cut all contact with this other girl, or at least stop seeing each other so much so you can work on your relationship more. If your gf doesnt like your new hobbies and makes fun of them, or you dont hang out or do the same thing anymore then yes that might be a problem. But if its all just becuase you both have different views...then its abit of a waste to just end it.

goodluck
