I am worried about my fertility and the doctors won't do a thing until I am "trying" (which won't be for a good few more years!). By then it could surely be too late? I started periods late. Then they intermittently would stop. Then I went on the pill, which I was on for 3 years before it started giving me bad effects on the pill free week. Which suggests to me something has changed i.e. I have less natural oestrogen so the drop in the pill free week is more severe. I have also lost interest in sex since this happened. And now I have a UTI which I hear are more common in people with less oestrogen. I have explained all this to a doctor and they say "come back when you've been trying for 2 years" In the meantime as I just supposed to worry myself? x

I started when i was 9 and they were always extremely heavy and extremely painful. I even was put on bc to help the cramps and bleeding it only made it worse. I also have scarring on my pelvis/uterus from pelvic inflamatory disease. Drs told me i would not be able to get pregnant. My long term bf didnt use a condom once and i got pregnant with my first. My second child was the same way. My point is that unless you have tried how can you really know? Things can change. My dr now says im very fertile and there isnt any scarring when two diff drs told me 6 yrs ago there was significant scarring. So just relax and wait until you are there.

I completely understand why you'd be so worried about this but your symptoms aren't neccessarily anything to worry about, I think you've just got yourself too worked up over it. The fact that you started your periods late doesn't mean a thing. Also having irregular periods isn't anything to worry about. Obviously when the time comes that you are trying to concieve it may take a little longer as plotting your ovulation will be difficult without a regular cycle but it certainly doesn't mean you're infertile.
I've suffered very irregular periods along with many other symptoms that led to me refered for fertility testing before I was even trying for another baby. I worried myself sick over it and, like you, convinced myself something was wrong. When we started trying I was so sure it would take months, maybe years but I fell pregnant within 3 months! Try to stay calm, stress is one of the biggest factors that will stop you from getting pregnant. Good luck

Let's come at it from this angle: what is it you expect the doctor to do that he or she has not?

I was very prone to UTI's in my younger years and had NO fertility issues.
Are you currently trying to get pregnant or is this a pre-emptive strike?
Are you having other symptoms or issues that require medical care?
IF you are just worrying about what MIGHT happen, then I agree with the doctor.
If you have symptoms and other issues and have been trying to get pregnant for a year or longer then maybe you want to see another doctor...

"sounds" to me like you need a better gynocologist. The one who you've dealt with sure doesn't sound like he/she is on your team.....
Good luck....

I have been were you are now my periods didn't start till i was really late and then some months i went with out on for 6 months i was trying for a baby when this happened and i got my hopes up that i was pregnant when the doctors told me i wasn't i was sent for tests and everything came back normal but not the partners wasn't meet new guy years later and now we have two boys in some women they have unexplained missed periods and UTI's have nothing to do with low oestrogen as my older sister had a high level and went through early menopause as 26 which was a blessing as she is a bad mother to her kids that she had at a young age. So don't worry about your fertility until you find 'the one' good luck.
