Honestly I told my girlfriend that because I wanted to be free of obligation during my senior week and summer trip. We picked it right back up afterwords on the grounds that we shared any and all sexual encounters that we had during that time. I meant it seriously, lets break and get back together, but I set a timeframe and stuff. I get the feeling that most guys feel the same way BUT girls interpret it as a breakup so that is where it goes.

I am not a man, but I use to get this a lot from an ex boyfriend. He wants to break up but does not want to say so too blatantly for fear of what you may do. He wants to see other women but if things dont work he wants you to be there waiting.
RUN as fast as you can. You could find yourself like me constantly taking breaks and never got anywhere. I eventually ran and am now with someone I never take a break from.

For some it's a period of no contact. For others, it's like a break up. Make sure you ask him what he meant before you're heartbroken. However I would not agree to ANY break. Basically he has control of you and will decide whether to go back to you or not. He will be weighting you against other girls, maybe. Not to be negative but accepting a break request means trouble in most cases.
