When a woman has sexual intercourse with a man for the first time, there is a saying "that's her broken in," it means that she is no longer a virgin, the thin membrane around the entrance to the vagina is "broken." The hymen (thin membrane) doesn't necessarily break with sexual intercourse though, it can break through fingering, tampons or strenuous exercise too.
No, you can't hear or feel anything when it breaks. Some women have thicker hymens than others hence the reason intercourse can sometimes be painful for them first time around but you never hear anything actually break.
