My biggest issue is , that coincidences are driving me crazy. I refuse magical thinking, like they are a sign of supernatural, etc, yet they are so frequent and freaky, that I can't help it , not to notice them. They are following me everywhere, most of them are meaningless, some is very unfortunate. Never the good kind, I noticed so far. Like getting something for free from the universe etc. I know , there are no good answers, yet, I'm curious what do you think about coincidences, thanks. Reply to this Question Share |

Thanks for your answers, they are all very interesting. However, my coincidences are much more intense, than similar birthdays ,or running into someone. I'm not saying , that my coincidences are better than your yours , and things like that. But even so , it would be boring to write long stories about them, I know, they are incredibly weird, and mainly very frequent. This is why I can't disregard them, if they would only happen once or twice, I would just get over with it soon. This way, they are staying in my system, and disturbing my scientific view on most things in life. Thanks again.

HiLoved Code Worriers reponse. As a species, humans are actually very ill equipped to deal with probability and odds. Perhaps its our way of coping with the fact that the chances of me or you, us as a unique individual, being here at all are astronomically against. If we were capable of truly understanding how improbably our exist is and how likely it is that we wont be here next week we wouldn't function. We also tend to often see things without looking at the bigger picture. I remember a well known story of a Mechanic who had been sent to help a stranded motorist. While walking back to his vehicle a call box he was walking past rang and he answered the phone. The voice knew him by name and asked him if he had finished the job. Taken aback the mechanic asked the co-worker on the end of the phone how on earth she knew he would be standing by that particular phone box at that precise moment in the middle of nowhere. When the lady checked the number she dialled she realized she had dialled his pay role number which happened to be the number of the call box he was walking past at that moment. Its a well known tale but its important to remember we don't know how true it is or how much its been added to as the story is told and retold. BUT assuming tis true the chances of it happening must be a trillion to one!!!!!!!!It seems ridiculous to call that just a coincidence....or does it? There are 3 billion calls per DAY in the US alone and probably around 10 billion worldwide. Over the course of a decade that's trillions of calls around the globe making those one in a trillion events actually quite likely to happen to someone somewhere. We all experience that thing where we are walking around town and we think of someone we havent seen for ages and then we walk around the corner and there they are! Or we think of someone and a moment later they call us. It seems a amazing but in truth we think about people all the time. Lots of people pass through our minds every day and usually we forget about it, its only when one of the many, many people we happen to think of calls us a short while later or we see them in the street that we remember the event. Rarely do we see such things in a cold, objective manner. We all like to feel something special has happened to us so the time between thinking of that person and actually seeing or hearing form them gets shortened in our minds. We may remember feeling a connection or a feeling they would ring. That's part of the problem - we delight ourselves with seemingly amazing events because it adds drama, mystery or a sense of child like wonder to our lives. But it does cloud our judgment. Mark

I believe the world is more than our 5 senses and what our logical minds can explain. I don't see coincidences as some woo woo, creepy stuff. I just take it for granted that we can sense things that seem paranormal, just like animals can sense earthquakes days away. It is an inherent ability we all have that's suppressed. Trees have connected energy too. Once a friend of mine discovered after many tests that she had an oak allergy, so that oak tree had to be cut down. Minutes after the tree collapsed a sister tree that was yards away also fell down by itself. I don't think that's a coincidence. I am also interested in reading about humans only using 2% of our DNA, quantum healing and stuff like that.
I don't doubt that some of the coincidence is magical thinking, or simply just being absent minded. Also when you concentrate on a theory long enough, you begin to have selective attention and you would see evidence kind of popping up everywhere. Although I fully know that something can be real even if you can't explain it.

Well, if you go by it's definition:
"a remarkable concurrence of events or circumstances without apparent causal connection."
Some call it a fluke (neutral event)
Some call it fate or luck(y) (good event)
Some call them an accident (negative event)
I believe everything is connected. Not in a religious way, more in a, we are ALL part of a bigger picture. But mostly I think "stuff" JUST happens.
I really DO think LIFE is a series of events, but I do NOT believe they are predetermined. They just sometimes surprise the fire out of us.
Look at genetics. It can seem so random, yet there is a REALLY strong order to it all (WE JUST DON'T understand it all).
Pick ONE event that freaked you out, TAKE it apart. And MAYBE you will notice that it WAS truly random or that is was more of a chain reaction.
I was thinking of calling a friend of mine and not 30 seconds later my phone rings and it's her. Coincidence? Or maybe she had had the same thought and called me before I called her. If I take the event apart, I can say this, I actually thought of calling her Friday (I saw a painting that reminded me of her backyard), but I got sidetracked and didn't call. Nothing happened. Then I thought of calling her, because I tend to be a LITTLE sucky checking up on my friends at times, and boom she called. IT was bound to happen. We call each other maybe 3-4 times a week. The fact that it happened right after I had the "Ah I should call so-and so) was really a coincident. See what I'm getting at?
Just my 2Cents.

I'm not religious as in I do not do things religiously I just simply believe in God etc. Some people might call that being religious. Sorry I know you are not and you don't believe. That's cool. Sorry for being biased!!
