One general piece of advice on moving in to a new country / new environment is not to talk too much about "the way we do things back home / in America". Don't constantly be talking about where you have come from unless people ask you otherwise you are going to be creating barriers between you and the people that you are with. Don't assume that habits or customs that you are unfamiliar with are wrong / dumb. Try to be positive about your host environment and keep your opinions to yourself until you actually know what you are talking about.I'm sure that you wouldn't make any of these mistakes but all too many people do.
