I'm going to make a family planning appointment to talk things through with a professional but i'd like some opinions from other people too. I'd like to go on the pill, but i'm not sure if it's a good idea because of all the side-effects. I'm going to use a condom AS WELL for the majority of the time. But they could split, or we could get caught up in the moment and what not and they're not 100% effective. And as long as I know i'm protected i'll feel better. I also know my boyfriend doesn't have anything i can catch and vice versa, so pregnancy is the only thing i'm thinking about protecting myself from with him (and i dont plan to be sleeping with anyone else.) So my question is, what do people think of the pill? Good? bad? What do people recommend using as forms of contraception?

The pill is great... I've been on it for 2 years almost. The only things I will caution you about is nausea when you first start taking it and weight gain.

Hey there,
Way to use a condom as well! Because, we all know that the Pill protects from pregnancy, but not from STI's. So way to double up. As for the Pill, I've been on it for awhile. I like it pretty well, but I'm a little flaky and have the tendency to be a little forgetful. So, I switched over to the Nuva Ring which I ABSOLUTELY LOVED. No muss, no fuss, not a big change in my body or anything... very comfortable - you forget it's even there!
Then I ran out of my trial pack of three and had to finish out the rest of my birth control pills. But as soon as they're all gone, I'm going back to the Nuva Ring. Both are great, but that Ring is amazing.
Good luck, sweetness!

Good for you for backing up the condom with a regular form of birth control. And please, use a condom ALL the time until you marry. You are the one who is protecting your future fertility, and the best way is a condom, every time.
When my daughter told me that she had the same problems these days with the pill, I was surprised that the pill hasn't changed very much. I had a slight weight gain - 10 to 15 pounds. It tended to make me a bit depressed and it took away my sex drive. The pill makes your body think that you are pregnant. The really wonderful thing about the pill is that it relieves you from worry, you know EXACTLY when you are getting your period, and better yet, you can take a few extra pills if you don't want you period on Friday night.
You can go an some very low estrogen dose pills, there are quite a variety now. The important thing is to not second-guess yourself and record all of the side-effects that you suspect the pill is causing for you. Discuss this with your doctor. It's also not a great thing to be on if you are a smoker. Hope this was of some help.
