We don't have laws on dating. But hey 16 and 18 that's two years difference! And she's nearly 17 . People would be stupid to look down on you for that. I think that's a great age gap and you want to ask her out. Your not talking sex and stuff. So ask her out and enjoy yourselves instead of worrying about what other people might think. And as for the law stuff other bother about that when you need to. Good luck!

Check with the law in your area. That, more than anything will help you understand what you can and can not do.
If she is of legal age to date in your area, that still does not mean she is of legal age to consent to all things.
For example, if she is considered a minor, she may or may not be allowed to date, HOWEVER, she would still not be permitted to do other things that adult lovers do. If two 25 yr olds take nude photos of each other just for fun...it is two consenting adults. If you take even a semi-nude photo of her, and she is a minor, you can be charged by the country laws (not even the girl herself or her parents) for the creation of child pornography. After that you are a sex offender on your record.
See what I mean?
You should also know that consent for sex, does not include all sexual acts for a minor. In some areas, the law is clear that a minor of say, 17, can consent to vaginal sex, but does not have the right to consent to anal sex. Again, if this is something that you want to do together, better think again. You could be charged again.
The law of your area will make the do and don't of your situation very clear.

here in the states the only thing that would matter is that it's not legal till she's 18 so her PARENTS would have to be approving...
if it's legal where you are that's not an issue... unless her parents still have a say in what she does and does not do... for me I would not have allowed my 16 yr old to date an 18 yr old because she was not mature enough and the age gap could create legal problems for the young man...

i met my wife when she was 16, and i was 20. we have been married for right at 29 years.there is nothing wrong with dating a 16 year old girl as long as you respect her , and not pushing yourself on her . i would not worry about what people think.

Be happy.

It's more law. Here in Iceland we can have sex at 15, (not that anyone cares about those laws) and even her parents could charge him for a rape, the guy would win because my friends wants it. It's just how far the parents are ready to take it. So my advice, if you're getting pretty serious, ask her to check with her family so this won't end up in a mess :)

That's OK. An 18 year old guy sleeping with a 16 year old?
Legally that depends on the legal jurisdiction, morally uncool anywhere.

It's fine as long as you are dating her for the right reasons. Two years is such a small age difference that when she is 18 and you would be 20 you probably wouldn't even notice. I'm 21 and started dated someone who is 17 and it is great. There are some things that make the age noticable but other than that it is all about the chemistry that you two have.
