 What about getting into hockey as a fan? It's not hard to get caught up into a sport when you have motivation! I forced myself into Redsox and Colts, and it stuck with me...Definately scored some points when it came to my guy that I have now. Just kinda be a little sporty, but still how you are now. Know his favorite team (professional), but don't come right out the next day saying 'so, how'd you like that game last night', because you might sound a little over-ambitious. Maybe find out from a buddy what his favorite team is.
As for finding out about a girlfriend he has? No way to know if you don't ask for sure...How do you plan of getting this guy if you haven't even gotten the courage to ask him about himself? :) Even if you aren't really confident, fake it! He'll probably not be able to tell the difference, and confidence is SEXY. I repeat, S-E-X-Y, SEXY! Plus that just goes to show you're confident enough to ACT confident. Casually bring it up in a conversation once you have his full attention for a minute. Say something like 'you're such a good player. Your girlfriend probably beats girls off you with a stick!' just really confidently and with a little laugh.
