 Love is about friendship, its a special bond between 2. Frienship is the basic foundation of a relationship. 9 years is a long time which gives it even more reason for your friendship and your love to survive.
Go for it and heck, if it doesn't work out as a relationship then your friendship should be strong enough to over come anything!
