A female reader, anonymous, writes (23 February 2008):

I studied in social psychology class that we feel attracted to other person when we feel (consciously or subconsciously) that a person has something that we 'need' in order to 'compensate' one or various areas of our lives.

It doesn't have to be obvious. For example, a person who feels he or she is ugly not necessarily will fall for a beautiful person just to feel less ugly, but for a person who makes him or her feel secure about him/serself. Also there are some theories that state that for some reason we tend to fall in love with people who help us in an event of big necessity.

the cause of falling in love I think is personal to each individual. the cause that makes me fall in love, is realising i love spending time with someone, i want to be with them whenever possible, they make me laugh, i trust them, im attracted to them physically, I feel safe and happy around them.

Rather than looking at the cause look at why you love someone. it is because they have qualities in them that we adore usually xxx

If you ever figure the answer to this one out, girl, be sure to let me know.

Even Einstein and Freud couldn't figure it out.

Jamer70 agony auntPersonally i dont know, and there could be a scientific answer but i wouldnt wanna know it.

Love is one of those things that we may never fully understand, but its there.

As for what makes us fall in love. Fate? Body Chemistry? Something else? There are a million possible answers, you pick one. But one thing to know is you should enjoy it

A male reader, Kawika United States +, writes (22 February 2008):

Kawika agony auntMy God...that is such a good question. Hmmm...maybe it is that longing that God puts in our hearts to love and be loved. I think all of us have different triggers that excite the emotional and sensual chemistry responses of our hearts and soul. Sometimes it is instant...and for some it takes a little longer. Whatever it is...the feeling is incredible...isn't it? My advice is to just let it happen. Don't fight it. Let love take its course. I believe that love starts when two people openly and expressively share their feelings and care for one another. Remember, Romeo and Juliet? There passion and love for each other was both powerful and sexy. They could surely teach our sophisticated society a thing or two. I hope this helps...A girl's perspective is probably better.
