If I were to take a guess I would say see a doctor to get medication for the anxiety first. Hives can be brought on by emotional stress and that may be where the problem is centered. It is not easy to diagnose a problem of this sort but since stress is sometimes the culprit that is where I would begin treatment. Your doctor is not necessarily incorrect in prescribing the Allegra because antihistamines are commonly used to treat hives but he may have decided to see what effect the Allegra would have before trying medication for the anxiety.
