What are reasons for delayed periods other than pregnancy and stress?

A female South Africa age 36-40, *abe0201 writes:

My periods are 5 days late, took a preg test came out neg. I do have usual signs I get when I'm gonna be on periods and I don't have any preg signs. Besides stress( of which I don't have) what are the reasons for delayed periods? Should I be worried?

person12345 agony auntYou shouldn't be worried yet. However, if you have other symptoms of thyroid problems or any other health issues you should see a doctor to make sure everything is OK.

Also take another pregnancy test and be sure you use the first urine in the morning.

btw 5 days late is NOTHING unless you are on hormonal birth control and then it may be time to call the doctor.

Too much exercise .

Hormonal imbalances.

Hypothyroidism ( underactive thyroid ).

Wait a few days, repeat the test and if it still comes out negative, consult your doctor.
