A reader, shirley, writes (28 February 2005): Not at all! If you are happy, then that's all that counts. If someone were to say something negative to you, then you can put that down to jealousy or spitefulness. Only very shallow people will make comment on the so called "age gap" to make you feel uncomfortable.

If this person is of a legal age and there's only two years difference in your ages, then go for it and ask them out. Just make sure that they are above the legal age of consent.

All that really matters is what you think and feel and what your partner thinks and feels. In this case, we are talking about appearances so it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. There is more to a person than how they look. It would be shallow to judge people only on their appearance. So don't worry what other people think and go with your heart.
