Phoebe Halliwell agony auntHi,

my advice to you is keep trying for that family you want so badly. he wants kids, you want kidsso keep trying. I know some people where the Doctors said there was a vey small chance of them having kids and then They had twins so anything is possible.

Believe in your love and it'll pull you through. If you realy feel you can't and your partner wants to stop trying then adopt! Foster! Come on. I've not even met you and I can tell you'd be a fantastic Mum.

All the Luck i have is on it's way to you!

Phoebe

A female reader, Hopeful +, writes (11 April 2006):

Hopeful agony auntThere are plenty of reasons why people can't concieve. Sometimes they are a simple factor, like lifestyle, sometimes they are more serious. A year is frustrating but it is not a hopeless situation - many couples take longer than this to fall pregnant.

The first step, would be to take yourself off to your GP and have a chat about it. Tell him/her how long you have been trying etc and see what they suggest.

Your GP may be able to give you some suggestions or if they think its necessary, they can give you some tests or recommend your partner gets some tests done.

GP's get this one all the time and are ready to help on this issue, they will be able to provide you with lots of compassion, support and advice.

It's hard to say what the problem is because I'm not a doctor and don't know your circumstances but some of these things can affect conception:

(1) weight - if you are over or under weight

(2) health - ie, some STD's can cause issues

(3) your partner's sperm count could be low (there are ways to help this - again your GP can recommend some tests and some advice to help this issue)

etc etc etc

Hopefully these aren't factors and it is something really simple but talking to your GP would be a great first step.

Good luck, hope it happens for you soon!
