I told her she looked beautiful and she smiled and said i did as well. When i was sat near her on the coach going home she asked for my number so i gave it her and we also had a photo done together... and then when i was at home she texted me saying i was amazing and thanks for a great night. Anyway this is the strange thing... i have now known this girl for 12 years now because she went my primary school and i never really noticed her until we were dancing and i kinda like her now... so should i tell her and how can i maybe see her more because we have left school now?

Of course you should!
You have the Prom as a great starting point, so build on that. I'd suggest ringing her and talking, but then I'm hopelessly out of date when it comes to communication by text...
Whatever you do, whether you text or ring her, let her know exactly the truth, as you've put it down here. Say that, until your dance at the Prom, you never noticed what a wonderful girl she really is (a bit of casual compliment can never go astray) and that, now that you're free of school, you'd love to see her again if she'd like.
Just like asking anyone for any date, have in mind a thing you think you'd both like to do, and just ask if she'd like to go with you.
Even though you've tended to overlook her for 12 years, it doesn't mean you can't make up for lost time now. :-) Go for it!
