A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend keeps saying he wants to move out . We share an apartment and have equal share in it. I don't want to leave and he is demanding that I give him half of the security deposit or get out. Is there any way around this or any kind of time period. We live in new York state if that helps

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (22 February 2009):

Can't you both move out, get the security deposit back and split it?

Either that or if there is a second bedroom then together you need to find you a housemate who can take over your boyfriend's half of the rent / deposit etc.

If he wants to go then it's really his job to find someone to take over the contract that HE signed. BUT since you are going to have to live with the new person I'd advise that you do it so you end up with some one nice.

Good Luck!! xx
