We don't want to use condoms, but how do I get on the Pill?

A female United Kingdom, anonymous writes:

Hey, I'm 17 years old and I have been in a relationship with my boyfriend for around 5 months now. I'm a virgin and we have talked about having sex several times and we are both fine with the idea of it.

The only problem is that I'm a bit scared about contraception. I want to get the pill from the doctors but I wouldn't know how to go about asking for it as I don't really trust condoms because I hear so many cases where they have split. Is this because of the way that they are put on?

Thankyou for your time and help. :)

Just re-reading my old questions I posted.

2005! A long time ago eh?

I'm still with my boyfriend now, and I did get the pill in the end thanks for all your help in giving me confidence to go to the doctors.

I'm off it now though because it had some nasty side-effects on me :[

But everythings fine now.

I just thought I'd post a follow-up because I totally forgot to say Thankyou to everyone who replied to my question.

You are all brilliant :D

hi sweetie dont be worried of going to the doctor for the pill its normal its not anything to be ashamed of it shows your mature enough to have sex. a comdom can split but the you can still get pregant being on the pill my friend did and she didnt no till she was 5 month she had all her periods aswell but its like 99% chance. Make sure you are ready to have sex with your boyfriend and your not just doing it cause you feel like you have to. good luck

hello, this is a common worry for most teenagers, first of all you must feel you are both ready for this sort of commitment, if so, the doctor will prescribe the pill. you should use a condom also at first for protection from sti's. when you go to the doctor explain that you are in a serious and intimate relationship with your boyfriend and would like to take the pill for protection. if you would rather go to the nurse she will check your blood pressure to see if you are suitable for the pill. the pill can have side affects such as headaches and weight gain but it would be for the best to use all the protection you can.

As the others have said, condoms are not 100% effective. However, they do help protect both youre self and your partner from gaining STI's. It is possible to use both condoms and the pill. But first you need to be 100% sure you are both ready.

Anastasia agony auntHey honey, first make sure you are ready to have sex okay. Secondly, the most important thing is to safe guard yourself from HIV and the pill does not afford that safety. It is 99% effective from pregnancy not HIV. Condoms have instructions on the packages, just take your time and follow it. There are sizes available now for different guys and once you don't buy one way too small than what your guy is...then you are okay for it not to burst. If you still want to not use the condom...you are a virgin...ask your guy to get tested ...that way you will know that you are sort of safe for HIV. Please take my advice...this disease is killing people at a rapid pace and a girl your age should not shorten her life for a nice of pleasure. Take care honey...ana

a condom will not split if it is used correcty and if you avoid putting it on without and jewlerry on as this could burst it. a condom is something like 97% effective so you dont have to worry about std's or getting pregnant.

good luck!

Condoms usually break because air bubbles get trapped inside them when they are put on, this very rarley happens and i wouldn't worry about it. If you go to your doctor and ask for the pill he will not have any problems perscribing it to you. I was sixteen when I started taking the pill and my doctor was very helpful, he explained how it worked, when i was to take it and he said i could call him if i had any questions or anything went wrong.
