He's over 40 and I think he's been with his share of other women so I find it very surprising ... have to figure out how to nicely try to broach the subject of trying other options ...

 What does his penis look like/how big is it? That's probably the reason why he can only enter in one position, it has to do with his penis being the way it is. Alternatively, if he is over weight, his belly could be getting in the way.

 Sounds like a lack of experience. It also sounds mechanical. I tend to not sleep with a man if I sense after the first time or two that he is cold and mechanical. I don't have a lot of patience in that regard. Try talking to him about it, making a case for increasing passion and trying different things...slow as it goes. Best of luck to you!
