Two years ago, my boyfriend and I were engaged and because we were young and needed to discuss important topics, we broke it off. Should I be patient if my boyfriend is not ready to get commit again because he is terrified that it will not work out again.

When in doubt, don't. If he has doubts, he should not commit, until they are resolved. Same for you. You will both survive this period if you are really meant for each other. Give yourselves time to grow up and gain a better perspective on yourselves.
