writes: my friend and i have liked the same boy for over 4 years now, and at one time last year i really felt i had fallen in love with him. we fancied each other but i refused to do anything because i felt awful on my friend. now, the boy and i fancy each other again and ive kissed him but i dont know what to say to my friend for the best because she still likes him aswell, however she knows nothing will ever happen between them. shall i start dating the boy as i cant wait around untill she stops liking him or shall i tell him i fell awful on her and nothing else can happen between us? I would suggest that the first thing you should do would be to tell your friend how things are and see how things go from there. I know that this sounds a bit odd but you maybe surprised the response you get, especially if she recognises that nothing is likely to happen between them.
Being open and honest in a situation like this is the best gurantee against hurt feelings. Say that you respect her friendship and her feelings and that is why you have come to her to talk about it before you decide what to do. Hopefully she will recognise you are being sincere and will respond accordingly.
